Please read these instructions thoroughly before using this product and follow all the information contained within. Failure to observe these instructions can lead to a reduction in the protection this product provides. Please note: mountaineering and climbing are dangerous sports which may lead to unforeseeable risks. You are personally responsible for every action and decision you take. You should acquaint yourself with the related risks before undertaking these activities. SALEWA recommends that you seek proper training from professionals (such as mountain guides or climbing schools) before any mountain-related activity. It is important to become familiar with rescue operations and how they are carried out safely and correctly. The manufacturer declines any responsibility in case of improper or wrong use. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
The correct use is shown in diagram B. WARNING: We have not shown all possible
misuses. “Class B” carabiners have been developed for the use in sport and alpine climbing. Every Salewa carabiner has been individually tested and it complies to EN 12275 Norm. You always have to make sure that the carabiner is properly connected to the belay system and that any external bodies, such as small stones, do not hinder its correct closing. The Salewa quickdraw slings comply to EN 566 Norm and have been conceived as part of a quickdraw for climbing. Always make sure that the top carabiner of a quickdraw can move freely, while the bottom one will be kept in position by an anti-turn device. Properly place quickdraws, following the line of the route. The same applies for the subsequent placing of the rope.
Before use, carefully check each product part. Diagram C You should bear in mind that a carabiner may open during use, because of unfavourable friction or while hitting the rock. Choose belay points where this may be avoided. Loose fibres on the sling are a clear sign that the product must be retired. The instructions for use supplied with the product are always to be stored with the product. This product is only to be used by appropriately trained and/or competent persons, or when the user is under the direct supervision of such a qualified person. Make sure compatible and certified parts are used. We recommend the sole use of mountaineering equipment which complies with the relevant Norms, e.g. EN 892 for ropes, EN 566 for quickdraw slings and EN 12275 for carabiners.
- If there is the least doubt about the safety of the product, it is to be replaced immediately.
- A product which has been subject to a fall impact force is not to be used again.
- Any change to this product can reduce safety significantly.
The lifespan of the product is dependent on a number of factors, such as the manner and frequency of use, UV exposure, moisture, ice, affects of weather, storage conditions, and dirt (sand, salt, etc.). Under extreme conditions, the lifespan can be reduced to a single usage or even less if the equipment has suffered damage (for example during transport) before ever being used. Please note: Products manufactured from synthetic fibres are subject to ageing even when not used. This ageing depends mainly on environmental conditions as well as the impact of UV light.
Indications of maximum lifespan: Never: Correct storage: up to 10 years since production
Once or twice a year: up to 7 years
Once a month: up to 5 years
More times a month: up to 3 years
Every week: up to 1 year
Almost daily: up to 0.5 year
The potential lifespan of metal products is unlimited since the effective lifespan depends on the previously mentioned factors. Salewa recommends the replacing of products after maximum ten years.
